Maria Walker is drawn to the investigations field and specifically OIG because of the care and dedication OIG puts into ensuring an impartial and respectful process for all those involved.
Maria has worked on more than 80 investigations at OIG, spanning both workplace investigations and organizational climate assessments. She regularly conducts matters in both English and Spanish, and often partners with colleagues on Spanish-language cases to ensure accuracy and accessibility. In addition to her casework, Maria develops and delivers trainings for employers on investigations and related workplace topics.
Before law school, Maria earned a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from Stanford University, where she focused on human rights and immigration. She continued this commitment by volunteering with the CARA pro bono project as a translator before beginning her legal career.
During law school, Maria deepened her focus on human rights through a year at the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, where she contributed to nationwide class actions. She also gained practical workplace experience as a legal intern at a mid-size employment law firm, which sparked her interest in employment law and, ultimately, workplace investigations.
Maria enjoys spending any of her down time with her two dogs, Ollie and Roo, and also traveling whenever she has a chance.
