Lauren Numeroff is at her best when helping people navigate difficult situations with fairness, clarity, and a deep respect for the people involved.
That commitment shapes every aspect of her work as an attorney investigator. Whether she’s interviewing a complainant, respondent, witness, or organizational leader, Lauren approaches each conversation with genuine curiosity, careful listening, and the understanding that every person’s perspective matters.
At Oppenheimer Investigations Group, Lauren conducts independent workplace and educational investigations for employers, schools, and public entities. She is drawn to the challenge of untangling complex facts to make them clear, and helping organizations separate fact from perception, so leaders can make thoughtful, well-informed decisions.
Professional Background
Before joining Oppenheimer Investigations Group, Lauren built a diverse legal career spanning litigation, investigations, education, and government service. She has handled matters involving insurance fraud, civil racketeering, guardianship and estate disputes, attorney discipline, financial investigations, and complex civil litigation. Earlier in her career, she worked at an accounting firm, which helped her develop the analytical skills and attention to detail that continue to inform her work. Today, she brings that breadth of experience to every investigation, combining careful analysis with sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to fairness.
Lauren’s Approach to Investigations
Ask Lauren what makes an effective investigator, and she’ll answer with one word: humility.
She believes good investigators start by recognizing what they do not yet know. Rather than making assumptions, she methodically follows the evidence until she reaches a well-supported understanding of what occurred.
Lauren also believes trust begins with transparency. She explains the investigative process, answers procedural questions whenever possible, and creates space for people to tell their stories in their own words. Whether someone is a complainant, respondent, or witness, she wants every participant to leave knowing they were heard, treated with professionalism and respect, and that the process was fair.
That philosophy extends beyond investigations. Lauren believes every person is inherently deserving of dignity, kindness, and respect. She has found that understanding what motivates people, what goals, distractions, challenges and perspectives they have, not only makes her a stronger investigator, but also helps her be of greater service to clients and colleagues alike.
One of the lessons that has stayed with Lauren since childhood came from a first-grade teacher who encouraged her not to compare herself to others. Instead, she learned to appreciate the unique strengths each person brings. It’s a perspective that continues to shape how she collaborates with colleagues and approaches every investigation.
Beyond the Office
She’s also an avid reader and lifelong fan of novelist John Irving. Lately she’s been savoring The Last Chairlift, intentionally consuming just a chapter or two at a time to stretch it out for as long as possible.
If you ask Lauren what she hopes people take away from working with her, it’s this: that they leave feeling heard. Difficult situations are rarely easy to navigate, but she wants people to know they were understood, treated with respect, and that they have a thoughtful and skilled partner guiding the process.
