On March 7, OIG attorney investigator Ilona Turner co-presented the session “Transgender Inclusion in the Workplace” for the County Counsels’ Association conference in Santa Rosa, California. Along with her co-presenter, Wilder Clements of Clements Employment Law, the two covered four main areas:
- Clarifying terms and concepts used in connection with the trans, nonbinary and gender non-conforming community
- Understanding the legal framework related to every employer’s obligation to prevent discrimination and harassment based on gender identity and expression
- Identifying best practices for building culture free of discrimination and harassment for trans, nonbinary and gender non-conforming workers
- Empowering county counsel with tools to help address “small” issues before they become big issues and have courageous conversations in the workplace
